As the Spartans prepared for the postseason, they were once again a popular pick to win the NCAA tournament.

Cassius Winston finished his MSU career with the most assists in Big Ten history and was a consensus second team All-American for the second consecutive year. MSU finished the shortened non-conference schedule with a perfect 6—0 record and ranked No. The Spartans lost four of their first six games before pausing team activities for about two weeks due to positive COVID tests in the program.
