Bozeman signed a one-year deal. I am not listing Corey Linsley on the depth chart as we await his expected retirement announcement. Salyer moved to guard last season, and he was not as good there as he was at left tackle in when he filled in for an injured Slater. Pipkins regressed in McFadden is a potential option at right guard.
The Chargers will likely look to bring in additional competition on the right side, either at guard or tackle — or both. This group was incredibly thin before the Chargers signed Ford, who played in Buffalo last season after five years in Seattle. They still need to build depth and talent here. This is a position they should absolutely target in the draft, perhaps as early as Day 2.
Hortiz believes in building rosters through the trenches. A lot of focus gets put on the offensive side. But there are two sides to the ball, and this approach will also be applied to acquiring difference-makers on the defensive line. Starters: Khalil Mack , Joey Bosa. The Chargers retained Mack and Bosa, who took pay cuts before the team restructured their contracts for additional cap savings.
If Mack, Bosa and Tuipulotu can all stay healthy, the edge rushers will be the strength of the defense. The trio was trending in that direction last season before Bosa suffered a season-ending foot sprain in Week It will be interesting to see how the new regime views Rumph. He is an experienced special teams player.
Injuries have prevented him from really making an impact on defense. I think he makes sense as a fourth edge rusher. But the Chargers could look to upgrade at that spot, either in free agency or the draft. Starters: Daiyan Henley , Denzel Perryman. Depth: Nick Niemann , Troy Dye.
The Chargers had two linebackers on their roster through most of last week. Those were their two starters in They added needed bodies late last week and over the weekend, signing Dye and Perryman. Dye played for special teams coordinator Ryan Ficken in Minnesota. Perryman was a Chargers draft pick in and played his first six seasons for the organization.
Henley was a third-round pick last spring. A preseason hamstring injury derailed his rookie season a bit. But he has a promising skill set. Niemann played well in spot duty last season. Right now, I think Perryman has the leg up because of his experience. But he struggles as a tackler and lacks some refinement and feel for the position.
