The Guard as an organization failed to meet a deadline set by Riot Games to finalize their ascension. That left their players confused and ultimately let down.
Riot initially stated an 11th team would not enter the VCT. After community support for the players, Riot reverted their decision if the former roster could find a suitable organization, which they certainly did. All except Ian "tex" Botsch, who did not remain a part of the package deal with his teammates as they searched for a new organization. That leaves one player missing from the starting five.
Who could it be. He played for them through NA Challengers, but now acts as a streamer rather than competitive player for the organization. Or G2 could spend the time left until VCT begins to find a suitable fifth. That's where new speculation can start to take shape.
At the end of the day, any of The Guard's former roster could have found success elsewhere. It's great to see the majority of them stick together and slot into G2.
